Recording Physical Counts Using a Barcode Scanner in AcuityLogic DC

This topic explains how to use a barcode scanner to record physical counts of your inventory.

You can use the normal method or the quick scan method. For the quick scan method, AcuityLogic gives you a page of numeric barcodes to print and scan in place of entering counts with your keyboard and mouse.

To record physical inventory by using a barcode scanner

  1. In the DC Physical window, locate the inventory session. See Adding Physical Inventory Sessions in AcuityLogic DC.
  2. Click the Freeze link to freeze inventory. This prevents changes to inventory amounts while you are counting inventory.
  3. Click the Scan link to begin recording inventory counts.

The Inventory Physical Count window opens.

  4. To use the normal method:
    1. Select an inventory location from the Location drop-down list. See Maintaining Inventory Locations in AcuityLogic DC.
    2. Using a barcode scanner, click inside the UPC Code field, and scan the barcode of an item you have in stock.

AcuityLogic populates the details for the scanned item.

    3. Enter the item quantity in the Count field.
    4. Click Add.
    5. To edit the count for an item, click Delete to remove an entry or Reset to clear all entries added.
    6. Click Save to close the Inventory Physical Count window.
  5. To use the quick scan method:
    1. Select an inventory location in the Location drop-down list. See Maintaining Inventory Locations in AcuityLogic DC.
    2. Select the Quick Scan check box.
    3. Click Print Numeric Barcodes to open and print the numeric barcodes.
    4. Scan the barcodes that represent the quantity you want to enter for the inventory item.
      • You can scan multiple barcodes to represent a quantity. For example, scan the 100 and 3 barcodes to represent a quantity of 103.
      • If you enter the wrong quantity, scan the Cancel barcode to reset the entry in the Count field.

AcuityLogic enters the quantity in the Count field.

    5. Scan the barcode for the inventory item.

      AcuityLogic adds the inventory item.

If you scan the barcode for the same item more than once without first scanning a numeric barcode, AcuityLogic adds the same item to a new entry with a quantity of one.
    6. To edit the count for an item, click Delete to remove an entry or Reset to clear all entries added.
    7. Click Save to close the Inventory Physical Count window.
  6. (Optional) To delete the item count added to the inventory session, click the Delete Detail (trash can) icon.
  7. After you record the count for all items, click Post.
  8. If your company uses central inventory and another distribution center created the central inventory session you are recording inventory for, Eyefinity recommends coordinating with that distribution center before posting inventory counts for the session.
  9. In the confirmation message, click OK to commit the inventory counts.
  10. Print the Inventory Physical Reconciliation Report by using one of the following methods:
    • To print the report for all inventory locations, click the Printer icon in the Action section for the session.
    • To print the report for a single inventory location, click the Printer icon in the Details section with the location selected.
