Updates to How the Scheduling Manager API Determines Appointment Duration
How the appointment duration displays when using the Scheduling Manager (API) is now based on the following hierarchy:
-
Template Duration
-
Service Type Duration
-
Office (Employee minutes, per Office, per Day) Duration
-
Employee Duration
-
Default Duration (15 minutes).
The system looks for the duration setting starting with Service Type and working down through the hierarchy until the duration is found.
For example: If creating an appointment for the provider Marcus Welby, to determine the appointment duration the system looks at:
-
the template – no template or duration is not defined
-
the service type – no service type or duration is not defined
-
the office – appointment duration not defined
-
the employee – duration of 20 minutes is defined for Marcus Welby. The system uses the 20 minute duration.

Updated Scheduling Manager API Hierarchy
When using the Scheduling Manager API, the system uses the following hierarchy:
-
Template Duration
-
Service Type Duration
-
Office Duration (employee minutes, per office, per day)
-

You are not required to pass all items in the hierarchy. If an item, such as Service Type, is not passed, the system reads it as null and continues through the list until a defined duration is found.
