Documenting a Patient's Pharmacy

You won't be able to ePrescribe medications for a patient until their pharmacy is documented. This topic explains how

To document a patient's pharmacy

  1. Open the patient's chart.
  2. Click Edit Patient Data on the action bar.
  3. Click the Pharmacy tab along the left side of the screen.
  4. Click either Add Surescripts Pharmacy or Add Manual Pharmacy.

    • Add Surescripts Pharmacy. Most pharmacies in the U.S. will appear in this directory. It's important to select the pharmacy from this directory, if possible, because it enables you to ePrescribe medications directly to the pharmacy. You can also approve refill requests and obtain a patient's medication history from their pharmacy if it's in the Surescripts network.
    • Add Manual Pharmacy. If a patient's pharmacy is not in the Surescripts network, you can still document their pharmacy using this option. You won't be able to ePrescribe, receive refill requests, or obtain medication history from pharmacies entered manually.
  5. Select or manually enter the patient's pharmacy and save.

The pharmacy appears in the patient's list of Pharmacies. If the patient has additional pharmacies, you can add those as well. You can designate which pharmacy is the patient's preferred pharmacy by selecting Set as default.
