Working With GoodRx eCoupons

Eyefinity EHR enables you to acquire eCoupons for select medications you prescribe. eCoupons are generated through GoodRx, and they can be redeemed at a wide variety of pharmacy locations. This is a great way to help your patients save on out of pocket medication costs.

This topic covers the following:

Reviewing the eCoupon Price Comparison

When eCoupons are available for a medication, you'll see a Price Comparison window with a list of pharmacies a coupon is available at as well as an estimate of how much the patient will pay out of pocket. The list is sorted based on the following criteria:

  • Savings
  • Proximity to the patient's default pharmacy
  • Proximity to the patient's home address (if they don't have a default pharmacy on file)

The price displayed for each pharmacy is an estimate of what the patient would pay out of pocket for the specified Quantity and Unit at that location. In addition, a patient cannot redeem an eCoupon if they're using their insurance to pay for the medication. eCoupons cannot be used to reduce a patient's copay.

If a patient has a default pharmacy on file, and an eCoupon is available for that pharmacy, it will be identified within the Price Comparison list.

Applying an eCoupon to a Prescription

To apply an eCoupon, click Apply Coupon. Keep in mind that eCoupons are location-specific. The patient must fill the prescription at the pharmacy associated with the eCoupon in order to redeem its savings. For example, if you applied a coupon for CVS Pharmacy, and the patient took the prescription to Walmart, they would not receive the eCoupon benefits.

Once you apply a coupon, the pharmacy location for that medication is selected automatically for the purposes of ePrescribing.

After you've applied a coupon, you can still edit the prescription, but editing the pharmacy will give you an error message. This is because the pharmacy no longer matches the coupon. You can either look for and apply a coupon for that particular pharmacy or remove the coupon completely to proceed.

Helping Your Patients Use eCoupons

You can ePrescribe or print eCoupons depending on the patient's preference.

  • If you ePrescribe the prescription, the eCoupon will automatically be sent to the pharmacy as well.
  • If you print the prescription, a copy of the coupon will print along with it. The patient can then bring that coupon with them and redeem it at the pharmacy.

Make sure the patient knows that the eCoupon is only valid at the assigned pharmacy location. If you print the eCoupon for the patient, be aware that the pharmacy address is not included on the coupon. It's therefore important that you make sure the patient knows where the pharmacy is located if they want to take advantage of the eCoupon.

If you ePrescribe several prescriptions at the same time, and one of them has an eCoupon applied, all of the prescriptions will be sent to the pharmacy the eCoupon is assigned to. You also cannot ePrescribe two or more prescriptions at the same time if they have eCoupons for different pharmacies applied to them. It's recommended that you individually ePrescribe any Rx's that have eCoupons applied to them.
