Managing Compound Medications
You can create and manage compound medications that you can prescribe to your patients and send to compounding pharmacies. The compounds you create are visible to other prescribers in your practice, and you can see the compounds created by others.
What do you want to do?- Log into the Eyefinity EHR web application.
- Click Preferences in the upper-right corner of the page.
- Click Manage Compounds.
The Manage Compounds page opens and displays all the compound medications that have been created by prescribers in your practice.
- Open the Manage Compounds page. To learn how, go to Open the Manage Compounds page.
- Click the Add Compound action bar button.
The Create Compound page opens.
- Give the medication a descriptive Compound Name.
- Select a Route.
- Select a Dose Form only as needed.
- Add an Active Ingredient:
- Click the + Add Base hyperlink.
The Search to Add Ingredient window opens.
- Type the brand name or generic name to search for the drug.

The active ingredient is now listed on the Create Compound page.
- Click the + Add Base hyperlink.
- Enter a Strength, Dose, and/or Volume.
You must enter at least one of these numerical values. Some drugs may require more than one numerical value. The Save button becomes active once you have entered enough information.
These values must begin with a number. 0.03 is an acceptable value, but .03 is not.
- Repeat steps 6–7 for each additional Active Ingredients and Base Medication.
The Rx Name field at the bottom of the Create Compound page updates to include the descriptive Compound Name you enter and the drugs that compose the compound medication. The Rx Name has a technical limitation of 101 characters, so you may need to shorten your Compound Name or select fewer drugs to comply with this limitation.
- Click Save.
Your compound medication is now listed on the Manage Compounds page and is ready for prescribing.
