Restricting High-Profile (VIP) Patient Charts
The restricted charts feature enables you to mark certain charts as sensitive. If you have VIP or high-profile patients, you can mark their charts as "restricted." The restricted status does not prevent practice users from opening the charts, but warns them that the chart is restricted and creates an audit log of all actions and views within the chart.
Only users identified by an administrator may restrict or remove restrictions from a patient's chart. To learn more, go to Enabling Restricted Charts.
- Open the patient's chart.
- Click the Mark Chart as Restricted link
The Mark Chart as Restricted link is visible only to users who have been given permission by an administrator
- Add users to the exception list to allow specific users unrestricted access to the patient's chart:
- Click the Staff Member/Groups drop-down.
- Type the first few letters of a staff member or group name.
- Select the user or group from the autocomplete list.
The staff member's name is added to the list of users who can access the chart without restriction.
Use the exception list to allow members of the patient's care team to access the chart without being warned that the chart is restricted or prompted to provide a reason. The restricted chart event log does not record actions by users in the exception list.
The exception list applies only to the individual chart. Adding users to the exception list does not grant them unrestricted access to other charts.
The exception list cannot be modified once the chart is restricted. If you need to add or remove users from the exception list, you'll need to remove the restriction, restrict the chart again, and add the desired users to the exception list.
- Confirm that you wish to restrict the chart by clicking the Mark as Restricted button.
The chart is now restricted. The restricted chart warning page displays. Practice users will be presented with this page when they attempt to open the chart. An icon overlaying the patient's photo indicates that the chart is restricted.
- If you wish to open the patient's chart, enter a Reason for Accessing the Chart and click Proceed.
Otherwise, if you don't wish to open the patient's chart, click Cancel.
Clicking Cancel here does not remove the restriction. It simply closes the patient's chart and returns you to the Home page.
- Open the patient's chart.
The restricted chart warning page displays.
- Enter a Reason for Accessing the Chart and click Proceed.
- Click the Unmark as Restricted link.
- Confirm that you wish to remove the restriction.
