019. Diabetic Retinopathy: Communication with the Physician Managing Ongoing Diabetes Care
Percentage of patients aged 18 years and older with a diagnosis of diabetic retinopathy who had a dilated macular or fundus exam performed with documented communication to the physician who manages the ongoing care of the patient with diabetes mellitus regarding the findings of the macular or fundus exam at least once within 12 months.
This measure is to be reported a minimum of once per performance period for all patients with diabetic retinopathy seen during the performance period. It is anticipated that eligible clinicians who provide the primary management of patients with diabetic retinopathy (in either one or both eyes) will submit this measure.
Examine the macula and fundus:
- Open the Ocular Exam.
- Select a dilated macular or fundus exam.
- Select diabetic retinopathy from Impressions.
- Tap ICD-10 Exp on the right side of the screen.
- Select the appropriate conditions from the Severity and Macular Edema drop-downs.
- Select a counseling Plan.
- Tap the Diabetic Retinopaty tab.
- Select the appropriate communication from the Quality 19A or Quality 19B drop-downs.
- Tap Done.
- Document the rest of the exam and Finalize.
Alternatively, code quality with a special plan:
- Open the Ocular Exam.
- Select a Diagnosis and Plan.
- Tap Special Plans and select MIPS.
- From Popular Plans, select MIPS Quality.
- Tap the Diabetic Retinopathy tab.
- Select the appropriate communication from the Quality 19A or Quality 19B drop-downs.
- Tap Done.
- Document the rest of the exam and Finalize.
