Complying with the Eyeglass and Contact Lens Rules
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) periodically reviews and updates the rules concerning glasses and contact lens prescriptions and sales in an effort to promote a fair market. The rules are designed to separate prescriptions from product sales and give patients the right to shop around for glasses and contact lens purchases. In service of patient choice, the FTC Eyeglass and Contact Lens Rules require eyecare providers who prescribe glasses or contact lenses to give patients a copy of their prescription at the end of a refractive exam or contact lens fitting, gather a signature for receipt of the prescription, and keep that acknowledgment on file for at least three years.
Without the right tools, complying with these rules can be a burden on eyecare practices. Fortunately, Eyefinity has you covered with best-in-class solutions for giving patients access to their prescriptions, gathering consents and acknowledgments, and storing documents so they're always within reach.
