VSP Formulary Updates for Maui Jim Lenses—June 2025
On June 11, 2025, VSP will make updates to some Maui Jim lenses in the formulary. The Maui Jim lenses that previously required a mirror coating to be added when ordering will be replaced in the formulary with updated versions to help reduce lab delays caused by missing coatings.
The update affects the following categories of Maui Jim lens colors:
-
Solid - Will now have the mirror coating as an inherent, or built-in, feature.
-
Bi-Gradient - Will now have the mirror coating as an inherent feature.
-
MauiGradient- The mirror coating will now be processed as a tint.
Action Required: The formulary updates will be added to your system automatically. However, as of June 11, 2025 your practice must do the following:
-
Activate and price two new lens attributes in Encompass Administration. Do not inactivate any of your existing colors or lens attributes.
-
Begin adding these attributes to orders for lenses with the affected colors.
Pricing the New Lens Attributes
To continue ordering Maui Jim lenses after the update, you'll need to price and activate three new lens attributes, following the instructions in Setting Up Lens Attributes Using the Standard Setup

The update replaces the mirror coatings for Solid and Bi-Gradient color lenses with the new "MJ Bi-Gradient Or Solid Mirror" and "MJ Silver or Gold Mirror" misc. extras. You can apply the same price that you were previously charging for the Maui Jim mirror coatings. The pricing for the mirror coatings will no longer be used.
