Connecting Your SATO CG408TT Barcode Label Printer Not Purchased from Think Smart
If you did not purchase your barcode label printer from Think Smart, follow the instructions below.
Before you get started, you'll need the following cables:
- USB 2.0 printer cable
- RS232 DB9 Male to Female Null Modem cable
- SIIG Serial to USB adapter
You can purchase these cables at an electronics retail or online store.
Setting up a barcode label printer with OfficeMate is different from setting up other printers. The procedure requires you to attach the printer to the computer with a USB printer cable, configure the printer, and then attach the printer to the computer with a serial-to-USB adapter and a null modem as follows:
- Install the SATO All-In-One Printer Utility that is on the SATO CD Software (driver installation) or at https://www.satoamerica.com/resources/software/windows-printer-drivers-for-sato-printers.
- Plug the following items into their respective areas:
- AC power cord into the AC adapter (power supply)
- The other end of the cord (round tip) into the DC input power terminal on the back of the printer
- The power cord into a power outlet
- Locate the USB 2.0 printer cable and connect the printer and the computer.
The ports on the back of the SATO printer look similar to the following diagram. On the diagram, the USB printer port is highlighted in green.
- Turn on the printer.
Windows automatically installs the printer driver when the printer is turned on. The driver installation may take a couple of minutes to complete.
- Open the SATO All-In-One Printer Utility and locate the utility under SATO in the Start menu programs or by searching Windows for SATO.
- Click Printer and select Add new printer.
The utility automatically recognizes the printer via the USB connection and adds it. The Add New Printer window opens.
- Select the USB Port radio button and click OK.
The SATO All-in-One Tool displays a list of any recognized printers.
- Select the printer model you connected to the computer.
- Click the Interface Configuration button on the right side of the window.
The CG Series Interface Confirmation window opens.
- Select 9600bps from the Baud Rate drop-down list.
- Select XON/XOFF from the Flow Control drop-down list.
- Click Set and then Close.
- Right-click the printer model in the list, select Interface Mode, and select RS-232/LAN/IEEE1284.
The Information window opens.
- Read the message and click OK.
- Turn the printer off and then turn it back on.
- Locate the RS232 DB9 Male to Female Null Modem cable and attach the male end to the back of the printer.
- Locate the Serial to USB adapter and attach the serial end to the Null Modem cable, and attach the USB end to the computer.
You may now remove the USB 2.0 printer cable, but we recommend leaving the cable in place in case the printer requires reprogramming.
