Using the Topcon Interface

  1. Ensure that the Topcon CL, KR, or RM device is connected with a serial RS-232 cable or a null modem to the computer that ExamWRITER is installed on.
  2. Ensure that ExamWRITER is open.
  3. Create a blank exam, or open a saved exam for an existing patient.
  4. In the ExamWRITER chart window, click the Interfaces icon.
  5. Select the Topcon device that corresponds to your Topcon equipment. If you gave the equipment a nickname in the Eyefinity Equipment Interface Setup window, that name appears in this list.
    • If you use the Topcon KR-800 with a LAN connection, select Topcon 800s.
    • If you use the Topcon KR-800 with a serial connection, select Topcon ARK Devices.

    The Eyefinity Equipment Interface window opens and displays this message: Waiting on Exam Data from DeviceName.

  6. Use the Topcon device to perform the exam tests.

    The test data is automatically transmitted to the computer at the end of the test. You can also press Print on the Topcon device’s operation panel to transmit the data to the computer.

    The device prints the data and then transmits it to the patient exam.

  7. To view the data, go to the Vision/Rx > Spectacle tab in the patient exam.

  1. Ensure that the Topcon KR-800PA device is connected with a LAN connection to the computer that ExamWRITER is installed on.
  2. Ensure that ExamWRITER is open.
  3. Create a blank exam, or open a saved exam for an existing patient.
  4. In the ExamWRITER chart window, click the Interfaces icon.
  5. Select the Topcon device that corresponds to your KR-800PA equipment. If you gave the equipment a nickname in Eyefinity Equipment Interface Setup window, that name appears in this list.

    The Eyefinity Equipment Interface window opens and displays this message: Complete Exam Texts for patient.

  6. Use the Topcon device to perform the exam tests and export autorefraction and k-readings from the KR-800PA.
  7. Open the Topcon iMap for KR application, and export topography images from the KR-800PA.
  8. In the Eyefinity Equipment Interface, click Import.

    The diagnostic data received from the Topcon device is imported into the patient exam.

  9. To view the data, go to the Vision/Rx > Spectacle tab in the patient exam.

  10. To review topography images:

    1. In the ExamWRITER chart window, click the Interfaces icon, and select the Topcon review option that corresponds to your KR-800PA equipment. If you gave the equipment a nickname in the Eyefinity Equipment Interface Setup window, that name appears in this list.

      OR

      Under the ExamWRITER Images, Drawings and Graphics category bar, click the KR-800PA icon.

    2. Double-click a report to open, view, and print topography images.
