Setting Up and Using iPrescribe Authenticator

ePrescribing users with EPCS authorization can now use iPrescribe to authenticate their login credentials. Follow the instructions below to begin utilizing this faster and simpler authentication process.

What do you want to do?

To complete setup, you will use the iPrescribe app to scan a QR code from EPCS Gold. Since you have limited time to scan the code, have your EPCS Gold information pulled up and ready to go for scanning.
  1. Download the iPrescribe app to your phone.
  2. Log into iPrescribe using your ePrescribing username and password.
    If you use SSO to access ePrescribing, you may see a notification pop up guiding you to set up iPrescribe.
  3. Enable push notifications if prompted.
  4. Navigate to the main menu and select 'Settings'.
  5. Select 'Enable as Two-Factor Authenticator'.
  6. Log into EPCS Gold, select an existing EPCS two-factor authenticator from the 'Token' drop-down menu, and enter the one-time pin from that authenticator.
  7. Select either the 'Tokens' tab or the 'Manage Tokens' link on the following page.
  8. Click the 'Add New Token' button and populate all the fields.
  9. Click the 'Open Scanner' button in iPrescribe and allow the app permission to access the camera on your mobile device when you are ready to scan the QR code from EPCS Gold.
  10. Scan the QR code to activate iPrescribe as your token.
  1. Prepare to send an electronic controlled substance prescription as normal.
  2. When you are ready to sign and send the prescription, enter your signature password and click the 'Send' button.
  3. Review the prescription details on the next screen.
  4. Enter your signing passphrase, select the name of your iPrescribe Authenticator from the 'Token Device' drop-down menu, and click the 'Sign' button.
  5. Open the push notification on your mobile device and click the 'Yes, continue' button to confirm you intend to electronically prescribe the controlled substance.
  6. Wait for a confirmation message to appear in iPrescribe and ePrescribing to indicate successful transmission.
