Recording Insurance Eligibility and Authorizations
If the patient’s insurance is VSP, see To obtain VSP member eligibility and authorization information.
What do you want to do?
Navigate to the Eligibility/Authorization window
- Open the Patient Demographic window and verify the patient's information. For more information, see To open patient records.
- Click the Insurance tab in the Patient Demographic window and select an insurance plan from the list or add a new insurance plan. For more information, see Recording Insurance Eligibility and Authorizations.
- Click Eligibility/Authorization to record or view eligibility and authorization information.
The Eligibility/Authorization window opens.
Fill ut the Eligibility/Authorization window
- Click New to add a new authorization, eligibility, and copayment information.
OR
To add only notes about the patient’s eligibility, type the eligibility or authorization notes in the Comments text box and skip to step 15.
If you add only eligibility or authorization notes, the Eligibility/Authorization window will open when the fee slip is created and the patient’s insurance is selected. Copayment information will need to be entered at that time.
- Make selections from the Checked By and Effective Date drop-down menus if the information did not automatically populate.
- Type comments in the Comments field as needed.
- Type the authorization code received from the insurance plan in the Authorization ID field.
- Type the total amount authorized in the Total Remaining Allotment field.
- Select the check box for each of the product types authorized.
- Select the date on which the authorization expires from the Expires On drop-down menus as needed.
- Type the amount the patient is required to pay in the CoPay fields as needed.
- If the patient is limited in the number of units of a product, type the number in the Qty fields as needed.
- Click Save to save your changes and click Exit to close the Eligibility/Authorization window.
