Initiating an ePA
Once a medication is queued for ePA, you'll need to initiate the ePA process.
To initiate the ePA process for a medication
- Open the ePA Queue. For more information, go to Opening the ePA Queue.
- Using the filters, select Not Initiated from the ePA Status drop-down list.
-
Click Apply Filters.
The list displays medications that have not yet had their ePA process initiated.
-
If this is an urgent request, follow these substeps; otherwise, proceed to step 5.
-
Under the Actions column, select View EPA.
-
Select the Priority drop-down and select Expedited/Urgent.
-
Select Save.
-
-
Under the Actions column, select Initiate ePA.
A window pops up for you to confirm your choice.
-
Select Initiate ePA.
The ePA Summary screen appears. You can review the information sent to Surescripts including ePA instructions, prescription details, and more from the ePA Summary screen.
By selecting Initiate ePA, you're requesting to begin the ePA process through Surescripts. Once an ePA has been initiated, it must be completed within three days.
The user who initiates the ePA becomes the "point of contact" for the ePA.
