How Does EncompassPay Work?

There's a lot that happens behind the scenes when a patient pays with a credit card. To help you understand, let's walk through a use case.

Jacob just finished picking out and ordering two new pair of glasses. His insurance only covers the first pair and Jacob has opted to pay for the second pair with a credit card. You create and invoice the order via practice management and as you are taking payment, select Credit Card. The device terminal, then takes over and begins processing the transaction.

The terminal securely passes the payment information (credit card number, expiration, etc.) to the relevant card payment network. The card network checks for information such as:

  • Is the card cancelled?

  • Is the card suspected or reported to be stolen?

  • Does the account have sufficient funds to cover the purchase?

After this card processing is complete, Encompass and the EncompassPay terminal are updated, indicating if the transaction is successful or not.

All of the process described above happens within a secure, PCI compliant network. EncompassPay ensures full end-to-end data encryption among and between Encompass, the card network, and the card terminal. This helps prevent fraud and inaccurate employee financial reporting from math errors and provides your patients payment flexibility.

EncompassPay also make it easier and more efficient to issue refunds and returns when necessary, helping you avoid the additional hassle and fees of a charge back.

Patient Experience: Payment Acceptance Best Practices

Ultimately, patients decide how they want to pay. As a best practice, Eyefinity encourages patients to swipe or use tap-to-pay with their card or mobile phone when interacting with the EncompassPay terminal. This allows Encompass to first confirm the card has sufficient funds and helps practices automatically issue card refunds to the patient if needed at a later date.

PIN Debit is also supported but generally does not offer this functionality because of card network processing limitations.

Lastly, EncompassPay terminals support most mobile wallet solutions, including market leaders Google Pay and Apple Pay. The best part: no matter how a patient choses to pay, EncompassPay’s simple fee structure remains the same.

What is and Why Use SaferPayments?

SaferPayments is an optional feature of EncompassPay that helps support you in reporting you are PCI compliant. You are required to provide proof that you are PCI compliant to avoid additional fees. With SaferPayments, we remove the mystery and make it easier to scan your network for viruses and maintain PCI compliance at a cost-conscious price. SaferPayments protects your practice and your patient's data.
