Setting Up the Marco Interface

This page explains how to

  1. In the ExamWRITER main window, click Tools, select Equipment Integration Setup, and select Equipment Interface Setup.

    The Eyefinity Equipment Interface Setup window opens.

  2. Click Add.
  3. Select the Marco manufacturer and a Marco device.
    • If you use M3 TonoRef II, select the RKT-7700 device.
    • If you use TRS-3100 or TRS-5100, select the RT5100 device.

    • If you use Marco Connect software with the RT-6100, select the RT5100 (not the RT6100) device. If you are not using Marco Connect software with the RT-6100, select the RT6100 device.

    • For the Marco RT6100 integration, Marco Connect software is not required. Contact Marco Support if you have any questions.

  4. Click Add.

    The settings and options appear.

  5. (Optional) Enter a Device Nickname.
  6. In the following table, complete the tasks that apply to your device:

    1. Click Browse, and select the location of the exchange folder configured in the RT-6100 device where the file will be saved. The exchange folder can be any folder on your system that ExamWRITER and Marco systems can access and that is not used by any other application, including Marco. If you select a folder that contains files, they will be deleted during the integration and data transfer process.

    2. In the File Prefix field, enter the first two characters of the device name.

    RT5100 (Auto Phoropter)

    RT2100 (Auto Phoropter)

    RT900 (Auto Phoropter)

    ARK-A-Devices (Auto Refractor Keratometer)

    RKT-7700 (Auto Refractor Keratometer)

    LM-Devices (Lensmeter)

    VL3000 (Lensmeter)

    1. Select a Serial Port connection, or select Marco Connect to use input from a file.

      Note: For the ARK-F and LM-990A devices, you must select Marco Connect.

    2. If you use a port connection: 
    3. Select the COM Port.
      1. Select the Baud Rate. The default is 2400.
      2. Enter the ExamWRITER IOP Category where the data is saved. The default is Examination.
    4. If you use Marco Connect:
      1. Click Browse, and select the location of the exchange folder configured in Marco Connect where the file is located after the exam information is exported. The exchange folder can be any folder on your system that ExamWRITER and Marco systems can access and that is not used by any other application. If you select a folder that contains files, they will be deleted during the integration and data transfer process.
      2. In the File Prefix field, enter the first two characters of the device name.
      3. Select the File Extension. The default is .xml.
      4. Enter the ExamWRITER IOP Category where the data is saved. The default is Examination.
    RT5100 Export (Auto Phoropter)Click Browse, and select the location of the exchange folder configured in Marco Connect where the RTinput.xmlfile is saved. The exchange folder can be any folder on your system that ExamWRITER and Marco systems can access and that is not used by any other software a. If you select a folder that contains files, they will be deleted during the integration and data transfer process.
    OPD-Scan III (Auto Refractor)
    1. Click Browse, and select the location of the exchange folder configured in Marco Connect where the file is saved.
    2. Leave the File Prefix field blank.
    3. Select the File Extension. The default is .xml.
    4. After setting up the OPD-Scan III auto refractor, set up the OPD-Scan III image manager.
    Reivew OPD-Scan III (Image Manager)Make sure that you set up the OPD-Scan III auto refractor. No Additional setup instructions exist for this device.

    Tonometer

    1. Click Browse, and select the location of the exchange folder configured in Marco Connect where the file is located after the exam information is exported. The exchange folder can be any folder on your system that ExamWRITER and Marco systems can access and that is not used by any other application. If you select a folder that contains files, they will be deleted during the integration and data transfer process.
    2. In the File Prefix field, enter the first two characters of the device name.
    3. Select the File Extension. The default is .xml.
    4. Enter the ExamWRITER IOP Category where the data is saved. The default is Examination.
  7. (Optional) Click Test to verify that you can connect to the Marco equipment.
  8. Click Save.
  9. Repeat steps 2-8 for each piece of Marco equipment that you use.
  10. Close the Eyefinity Equipment Interface Setup window.

If you use ExamWRITER 12 and you installed the new Eyefinity Equipment Interface (see Installing the Equipment Interface), do not follow this procedure. Instead, see To set up the Marco interface for ExamWRITER 14 or later.

  1. Follow the instructions provided by Marco to install the Marco Connect software.

    2. To download the Marco Connect software, contact Marco at 800.874.5274.

  2. In the ExamWRITER main window, click Tools, select Equipment Integration Setup, and select Equipment Interface Setup.

    The Equipment Interfaces - Setup window opens.

  3. To record data received from Marco in a file for debugging purposes, select the Debugging mode/Write to file checkbox.
  4. Add the equipment interface that you use.
    • If you use Marco M3 TonoRef II, add the Marco RKT-7700 equipment interface.
    • If you use Marco TRS-3100 or TRS-5100, add the Marco RT-5100 equipment interface.

    • If you use Marco Connect software with RT-6100, add the Marco RT-5100 (not the Marco RT-6100) equipment interface. If you are not using the Marco Connect software with the RT-6100, add the Marco RT-6100 equipment interface.

  5. From the Data Source drop-down list, select a source if available.
    • Select Port if the equipment is connected directly to the workstation on which ExamWRITER is running.
    • Select File if you use Marco Connect to interact with your equipment.
  6. If you selected Port in step 5, select a communication port number from the Comm Port drop-down list. Otherwise, go to step 7.

    The Comm Port default is 1.

  7. If you selected File in step 5, type the first two characters of the device name in the Data File Start Chars field. Otherwise, go to step 10.
  8. From the Data File End Chars drop-down list, select the file extension. If you use Marco Connect, select .xml.
  9. Click Browse, and select the location on the network where Marco Connect temporarily saves the data file.

    The Marco Connect application enables you to specify where to save the data files on the network. You must select an empty folder on your network that is not used by any other application, including Marco Connect. If you select a folder that contains files, they will be deleted during the integration and data transfer process.

  10. Repeat steps 4-9 for each piece of Marco equipment you use.
  11. Click Save.
  12. Click Exit.
  13. Close ExamWRITER to activate your changes.
