192. Cataracts: Complications within 30 Days Following Cataract Surgery Requiring Additional Surgical Procedures
Benchmarks are displayed here as both a chart and a table. The chart gives you a visual representation and helps you quickly compare benchmarks across different reporting methods. The table lists the specific benchmark criteria for each available reporting method.
This measure is available to Eyefinity EHR users only. You will not be able to complete this measure in ExamWRITER.
Percentage of patients aged 18 years and older with a diagnosis of uncomplicated cataract who had cataract surgery and had any of a specified list of surgical procedures in the 30 days following cataract surgery which would indicate the occurrence of any of the following major complications: retained nuclear fragments, endophthalmitis, dislocated or wrong power IOL, retinal detachment, or wound dehiscence.
This measure is to be calculated each time a procedure for uncomplicated cataract is performed during the performance period. This measure is intended to reflect the quality of services provided for the patients receiving uncomplicated cataract surgery. This measure is to be submitted by the clinician performing the cataract surgery procedure. Clinicians who provide only preoperative or postoperative management of cataract patients are not eligible for this measure.
This is an inverse measure. A lower calculated performance rate for this measure indicates better clinical care or control. The “Performance Not Met” numerator option for this measure is the representation of the better clinical quality or control. Reporting that numerator option will produce a performance rate that trends closer to 0%, as quality increases.
During the initial visit, document a full eye exam with dilation:
- Open the Ocular Exam.
- Select a cataract-related Diagnosis.
- Select a Plan.
- Complete and finalize the visit.
When the patient returns for the postop visit, perform the following steps:
- Document the postop chief complaint.
- Open the Ocular Exam.
- Select Postop Cataract from Diagnosis.
- Select the Postop Evaluation Cataract Plan.
- On the Postop Cataract screen, select one of the smartQaulity 192 options.
- Tap Done.
Eyefinity products and documentation refer to the MIPS quality numbers. Other measure numbering systems are listed here for your reference.
