Complying with the Contact Lens Rule Using OfficeMate/ExamWRITER
Beginning with OfficeMate/ExamWRITER 15.2.3929, the final contact lens prescription includes an acknowledgment statement and signature line. To comply with the Contact Lens Rule, print two copies of the patient's prescription following the contact lens fitting. Ask the patient to sign one copy, acknowledging receipt of the prescription. Keep the signed copy and give the patient the unsigned copy.
There are several ways to print the contact lens prescription. Choose the option that works best for your workflow.
The acknowledgment signature line appears on the detailed prescription. The signature line does not appear on the wallet-size-only prescription.
- Open the patient's chart, navigate to the Vision/Rx section, click in the Final Contact Rx box, and click Print.
- Open the patient's chart, click the Print toolbar icon and select Contact Lens Rx, and click Print Rx.
- Click the Finalize toolbar icon, select the Print Contact Rx check box, and click Save/Exit.
- Click the Rx/Orders toolbar icon, select Soft Lens or Hard Lens, search for the patient, select an order, and click Print.
If you'd rather create your own acknowledgment form, we recommend adopting the form included in the AOA Contact Lens Toolkit .
