Providing Prescriptions and Gathering Acknowledgments (Exam Room)
This page describes the steps you can take to comply with the Eyeglass and Contact Lens Rule electronically and on paper.
If your practice uses the Eyefinity Kiosk to gather consent from patients to receive their prescriptions digitally, you will need to look for a waiver notification when you open the patient's chart. If you see the patient declined the digital prescription waiver, you will need to print the glasses or contact lens prescription.
If you use the Eyefinity EHR iPad app in your practice, follow these steps to have the patient sign for the glasses or contact lens prescription:
- Open the Patient Overview, Visit Overview, or Vision Exam screen.
- Tap the More action bar icon.
- Tap Consents.
- Tap the Practice Consents tab.
- Select the prescription acknowledgment consent and tap Next.
- Tap Sign, hand the iPad to the patient, and ask the patient to sign the screen with their finger.
- When the Patient is finished, tap Save.
If the patient refuses to sign, you cannot withhold the prescription. Sign the acknowledgment with your signature.
If the patient has opted into receiving prescriptions digitally and they have access to the patient portal, they will be able to access the prescription as soon as you tap Save in the Final Rx. Let the patient know that their prescription has been sent to their patient portal.
If a patient does not opt into receiving their prescriptions digitally, you will need to print a copy. Printing from the iPad app requires an AirPrint-capable printer. To print the contact lens prescription, perform the following steps:
- Open the Patient Overview, Visit Overview, or Vision Exam screen.
- Tap the More action bar icon.
- Tap G&C.
- Tap the Glasses or Contacts tabs.
- Tap Print.
To have the patient sign for the prescription digitally, open your prescription acknowledgment consent, hand the iPad to the patient, and ask them to sign with their finger.
