Queuing Medications for ePA
While prescribing a medication for a patient, you may see a PA indicator next to the medication name. This indicates that prior authorization is needed. Rather than exiting the screen you're on, you can queue the ePA so that you can initiate it later. To learn more about the ePA queue, go to Opening the ePA Queue.
To queue an ePA
- Within the Ocular Exam Room, select the appropriate diagnosis.
- Select the Prescription plan.
-
Locate the medication you want to prescribe by using the list of Popular Prescriptions or by searching.
If a medication requires prior authorization, it will be labeled with a PA indicator.
- Select the name of the medication.
- Select the Dispensable Drug Name.
- Complete any appropriate prescription details.
- Select Done.
- Select Close.
Now that the prescription is queued, you'll need to initiate the ePA process. This can be done after the patient leaves or at more convenient time. To learn more about initiating the ePA process, go to Initiating an ePA.
If a medication requires prior authorization, you won't be able to ePrescribe or print the Rx until the prior authorization process is completed.
