Upgrading on a Terminal Server
You must make special considerations when upgrading OfficeMate/ExamWRITER on a Terminal Server. This topic outlines those considerations.
Ensure that you have a validated backup of your data. For more information about backing up your data, refer to Backing Up & Restoring Data.
Switch the Terminal Server to Install Mode before installing the upgrade to ensure that the files are saved to the correct location. After the installation is complete, you can return the server to Execute mode.
- Click Start, and select Run.
The Run window opens.
- In the Open text box, type cmd and click OK.
- At the command prompt, type change user /install and press Enter.
The “User session is ready to install applications” message appears.
- Type exit and press Enter.
- Install the OfficeMate/ExamWRITER upgrade. When you have completed the installation, perform these steps to return the Terminal Server to Execute mode:
- Repeat steps 1 and 2.
- At the command prompt, type change user /execute and press Enter.
The “User session is ready to execute applications” message appears.
- Type exit and press Enter.
The omate32.ini file contains configuration settings for various components of the OfficeMate/ExamWRITER software. New features may not work properly if there are multiple copies of the omate32.ini file. To avoid this condition, perform the following steps:
- Click the Search icon in the Windows toolbar and search for all copies of the omate32.ini file.
- Delete all copies of the omate32 file that are found outside of the following directories:
- C:\Windows\Omate32.ini
- C:\\ProgramData\Eyefinity\OfficeMate\Settings\Omate32.ini
You're likely to find rogue INI files within user directory folders:
- C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\VirtualStore
- C:\Users\username\WINDOWS
Or you may find INI files within directories using environment variables:
- %windir%
- %localappdata%\Temp
- Install the newest version of OfficeMate/ExamWRITER.
Eyefinity emphasizes using business-grade, PCL5-compatible printers, which can be attached directly to the network. A Terminal Server can print directly to TCP/IP printers without complicating printer management by relying on workstations.
The system administrator determines the printer naming conventions and controls which printers will be available to users.
Using only business-grade, PCL5-compatible printers simplifies printer management and ensures that such forms as the CMS 1500 print correctly.
