Recording Fee Slips for Patients with Temporary Access to the VSP Primary EyeCare Plan

This section explains how to record fee slips for insured VSP patients who have been given temporary access to the VSP Primary EyeCare Plan for medical eye care services. For a complete list of covered services, in-network providers can refer to the VSP Primary EyeCare Plan page in the Provider Reference Manual on VSP Online (network provider login required).

For patients who have a VSP plan that already includes VSP Primary EyeCare, record the fee slips as you normally would. For more information, go to Recording VSP Fee Slips.
  1. For VSP patients whose plan does not already include Primary EyeCare, call VSP Customer Care at 800.615.1883 to obtain an authorization for the temporary medical eye care services.
  2. Ensure that the VSP Primary EyeCare Plan is set up in OfficeMate Administration. For more information, go to To set up insurance plan information.
  3. Open the patient's Demographic window (Insurance tab) and add the VSP Primary EyeCare Plan to the patient's list of insurance plans. For more information, go to To set up a patient’s VSP insurance .

  4. Enter the authorization number that you received from VSP Customer Care by clicking Enter Existing Authorization in patient's Demographic window (Insurance tab). For more information, go to To obtain VSP member eligibility and authorization information.

  5. Record the products and services on a fee slip. For more information, go to To add products to fee slips.
  6. Select VSP Primary EyeCare Plan from the Insurance drop-down menu.

  7. Price the order. For more information, go to Pricing VSP Orders.
  8. In the VSP Estimator window, enter $20.00 for the patient's medical exam copay, and then click Transfer to Fee Slip to copy the information back to the Fee Slip window. For more information, go to Recording VSP Fee Slips.
  9. Collect the patient's $20.00 copayment for medical exam services and enter it on the fee slip. For more information, go to To record payments.
