Managing Optional Portal Features

Eyefinity EHR enables you to control certain patient portal features from within administration.

This topic covers the following features:

Automatically Enabling Portal Accounts

This feature is disabled by default. If you enable it, Eyefinity EHR will automatically enable the patient's portal account and send an email invitation when the next visit or nonvisit order is created.

Enabling Appointment Requests

This feature is toggled off by default. If you enable it, patients will be able to request appointments through their portal, and those requests will be received by members of your practice who are a part of the Patient Portal Visit Requests staff group. Appointment requests show up as Intramail.

Patients will be asked to enter/select the following information when they request an appointment:

  • Reason for visit
  • Preferred provider
  • Preferred day of the week
  • Preferred time of day

Configuring Portal Clipboard Selections

The patient portal displays the same clipboard that displays to doctors and technicians in your practice. You cannot hide a clipboard question from the patient without also hiding the question from your doctors and technicians. You can, however, select more patient-friendly terms to display in the patient portal. For example, you might choose to display "eyelid inflammation" instead of "blepharitis."

To learn how to configure clipboard questions, go to Customizing Patient History Questions.

Configuring Glasses and Contact Lens Prescriptions

Patients with portal accounts are automatically granted access to view and print active and expired glasses and contact lens prescriptions. This feature helps you remain compliant with the FTC Contact Lens Rule. You can control whether your signature appears on patient-printed prescriptions, as may be required by your state. Refer to the following topics to set up and enable your signature:

Enabling Medication Refill Requests

This feature is toggled off by default. If you enable it, patients will be able to request prescription refills through their patient portal by clicking the Refill Request button from within Medications.

This feature will not be activated until a future release, but the settings to turn it on or off are available so that you can prepare.
