Watch the What's New video to see highlighted features in action.

This page describes the enhancements, fixes, and known issues in the latest Eyefinity EHR release.

Eyefinity EHR will require iPadOS 17 in spring 2024. You must install the latest iPadOS 17 updates before this time. Apple does not support iPadOS 17 on the following iPad models:

  • iPad 5th generation (released in 2017, discontinued 2018)
  • iPad Pro 1st generation (released in 2015, discontinued 2017)

If you're running Eyefinity EHR or Kiosk on either of these models, you will need to replace them soon.

iPad and Web Enhancements

  • You can now document the CC/HPI and ROS information directly in the Visit Overview page in the web application and the Detailed Visit Overview screen in the iPad app! We replaced the Manage hyperlink with a drop-down menu that enables you to quickly add complaints and review of systems. We also combined the CC/HPI and ROS cards.

You can also use this feature to document a chief complaint in the patient's own words by selecting Other Complaint. This allows you to record complaints in a fraction of the time, compared to the traditional documentation structure. To learn more, go to To add a new free-form complaint.

  • Contact lens refractions in the Eye Log now display the color and multifocal power data.

  • We relabeled the Manage hyperlink to Perform Exam on the Ocular Exam card in the Visit Overview page in the web application and the Detailed Visit Overview screen in the iPad app.

  • Medication warnings now appear in the Visit Overview Rx card. Previously, you had to click the Rx tab on the web or the Rx action bar button to see these warnings.

  • You can now sort tasks by priority (e.g., stat, high, and normal).

iPad-Only Enhancements

  • We updated the design and functionality of the Motility screen and its associated tests within the Vision Exam on the iPad. Tests are displayed with the most recent at the top.

  • The Motility screen within the vision exam has been updated with color to make it easier to navigate. To add a test, you can now tap the + Add Test button and select the type of test. When you document a test, the test opens in a new full-screen window to improve the consistency with other areas of the vision exam. Documented motility tests now display in reverse chronological order. You can now access the patient's refraction history with motility tests.
  • You can now apply background effects to patient profile photos. You can choose between a blurred, pixelated, solid color, or no background for patient profile photos. Here's how to add background effects to patient profile photos:
    1. Navigate to the Edit Patient screen (Patient Chart > MoreEdit Patient).
    2. Tap the next to the profile image.
    3. Tap the background button so it indicates "on."

    4. Tap the shutter button to take the photo.

      A photo preview opens.

    5. Select one of the background effects along the left side of the screen.
    6. Tap Done and then tap Save.

The patient's photo will appear in the patient's chart in the iPad app, in the web application, and in the patient portal within a few minutes.

This feature is currently supported by the following recent iPad models:

    • iPad Pro 11-inch (2nd generation)
    • iPad Pro 12.9-inch (4th generation and later)
  • We removed the Strength column from the Rx Details screen. Strength is now displayed in the Drug Name column.

Web-Only Enhancements

  • The Save and Continue, Save, and Cancel buttons now float at the top of the viewable area within the following tabs in the Vision Exam:
    • Keratometry
    • Pachymetry
    • Central Retinal Thickness
    • RNFL Thickness
    • Amsler Grid

This means that as you scroll down long pages, these buttons are always accessible and appear in a consistent place no matter where you are on the page.

  • We removed the sliders from the following areas of the vision exam:
    • Keratometry
    • Pachymetry
    • Central Retinal Thickness
    • RNFL Thickness

The sliders were ineffective for entering precise measurements, so we removed them to declutter the page.

  • In the keratometry test, the method selected now applies to both eyes. Previously, the Method drop-down menu had to be selected for each eye.
  • Now, when you select Mark as Normal in the Amsler Grid, the grid at the bottom of the page will display normal. Previously, normal was only indicated at the top of the page.
  • We added such prescription details as quantity, earliest fill date, days supply, and refills under the Prescription plan heading within the Visit Overview Impressions and Plans card. This information was added to the web to match existing iPad functionality.
  • We previously announced a change to the Active Rx card whereby we would reduce scrolling by listing only prescriptions that started within the last three years. We've removed that enhancement, and we are evaluating how to better implement it based on your feedback.

Administration Enhancements

  • Lab results received through Eyefinity EHR are now automatically published in the patient portal. This change is required to comply with the 21st Century Cures Act information blocking provisions.

ePrescribing Enhancements

  • You can now view drug-interaction information within the ocular exam when writing a prescription for a compound medication.
  • We updated our database for state-based controlled substance regulations.

Fixed Issues

  • An optional Eyefinity EHR iPad app update resolved a "data couldn't be read because it isn't in the correct format" error that prevented coping findings from a prior exam. This issue was resolved in the Eyefinity EHR 7.5.6 app update.
  • We fixed a visual defect in the iPad Visit Overview screen in which the gray circles behind the element counters were not displaying correctly. This issue was resolved in the Eyefinity EHR 7.5.6 app update.
  • We fixed an issue in the iPad Occular Exam in which not all impressions were available to select while linking photos to impressions. This issue was resolved in the 7.5.6 app update.
  • When finalizing a previously saved PDF in PDF Manager, only the finalized version should appear. We fixed an issue that cause both versions of the PDF to appear in PDF Manager.
  • We fixed an issue that prevented Eyefinity EHR from saving Wearing Rx and Soft Contact Lens data automatically when the user navigated away from those pages in the Vision Exam.

Known Issues

We're investigating these issues and working to resolve them as soon as possible.

  • We're aware of an issue preventing notes from displaying automatically on the home page. To see the notes, select a Facility, and click Apply Filters.

Filtering by facility may not be ideal for some clinical staff. You can chose any filter criteria that will give you the widest view of your notes. You can also click Apply Filters without selecting a criteria, but the visits will be hidden again the next time you log in.

  • Final contact lens prescription is not displaying in the Vision Exam. We're working to resolve the issue, but in the meantime, you can view final contact lens prescriptions under Glasses and Contacts:
    • In the iPad app, open the Visit Overview, tap the More action bar button, and tap G&C.
    • In the web application, open the Visit Overview and click the Glasses and Contacts action bar button.
  • When you tap the CC/HPI action bar button, document the chief complaint, and tap Save, Eyefinity EHR closes the CC/HPI page and returns you to the Visit Overview. This should only happen when you add a chief complaint directly in the Visit Overview.
  • You may receive an Error 500 in the iPad app while navigating a visit that was copied forward from a previous visit. The error occurs when you document the Ocular Exam and save or attempt to navigate back to the Visit Overview. Instead of the Visit Overview, the app takes you to the Vision Exam and displays an error message. There is no data loss associated with this error—your Ocular Exam data is saved. We're working to resolve the issue, but in the meantime, here's a workaround:
    1. Tap OK to dismiss the error message.
    2. Tap the Overview action bar icon to return to your intended destination.
  • When sending autoletters in the iPad app, there's a delay in the typeahead results appearing in the To field.
  • After you tap the Mark No Meds button in the iPad app, the label does not change to Unmark No Meds. However, tapping the button again removes the no medications notation.
  • In the iPad app, the layout of the Eye Log > Test Log tab is not displaying correctly.
